Resolve

“…he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord.” (Acts 11:23b)

It’s that time of the year again. The New Year is upon us and so are resolutions. The time is perfect and the “fields white for harvest”. Have you made any resolutions?

Although not mandated, New Year’s resolutions are an expectation in our society. People desire improvement and the thirst for newness is a reality in any circle. If worldly people desire this with such ferocity, how much more God’s people?

Of course, weight loss and exercise aren’t at the top of the list for God’s people. But what is? Have you considered a daily Bible reading plan? Have you contemplated ways of tending to the sick and needy? Have you resolved to learn to navigate the congregation’s website to take advantage of its host of resources? Perhaps reach out to Christians, asking what their story of conversion was. Imagine if you learned one of those every day for a year! What relationships would blossom?!

Whatever your goals and resolutions this year, make sure you set them. God expects growth from His people and that requires resolve and determination. Set your face as flint and resolve to better yourself this year as you become more intimately acquainted with your Father by accomplishing His will.
