The Tutor

Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. (Gal. 3:24)š›

Next Sunday we will begin our next quarter of classes. Rick and I will be teaching a class entitled "The Law As A Shadow". We’ll discuss the relationship between the Old Testament (particularly the Law of Moses) and the New Testament. We both look forward to this opportunity.

The verse above describes at least one component of that relationship. The OT is profitable for study, for reproof, for training in righteousness; most importantly, the OT is capable of leading us to a knowledge of Christ, albeit a limited knowledge. God provided a tutor for the big day and that tutor was the OT.

Have you ever noticed the sheer quantity of writing that the OT comprises? Thirty-nine books in contrast to the twenty-seven of the NT. What a tutor! The OT has fulfilled its purpose and has been realized in Christ. We now have a direct knowledge of Christ and are now enabled to walk in the pathway of life. Thank God for His abundant provision to a lost people in a helpless state!
