Meditations Of The Heart (Ps. 19:1-2)

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. (Ps 19:1-2)

Even when men did not have technical knowledge of the dimensions, bodies and movements of space, and before the physics of the atmosphere were understood, humans were in awe of what they observed. They were drawn to the notion that the heavens either represented gods, or that supernatural beings caused their existence and functions.

But the Scriptures reveal the true Maker of the heavens – His identity and His character. He is not one among many deities but the only true God. He has the power to speak all things into existence; He has the wisdom to arrange His creation so that human life is sustained. But He also has a personal interest in mankind and has made His divine presence felt at critical times in the history of the world.

We who know God through Scripture have a special reason to marvel as we watch a sunrise or an eclipse, a thunderstorm or a rainbow, for they lift our eyes in the direction of our Maker and awe us with His majestic power.
