Meditations Of The Heart (Ps. 45:6-7)

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions.” (Ps. 45:6-7)

Injustice wearies and frustrates us. To see the guilty unpunished, the atheist’s argument heeded, the innocent and weak abused – these make us long for the vindication of what is right and pure. Sometimes it is in this life, and sometimes not. But either way, it is comforting to know that there is an ultimate authority who takes note of all injustice and will call it to account. That authority is Jesus Christ.

If the above psalm sounds familiar, you may remember it from Heb. 1:8-9. The Holy Spirit cites this verse to affirm the deity of the Son and His superiority to angels. Angels are ministers (Heb. 1:7), but the Son is the eternal king. And He hates wickedness. If we submit to His rule, all will be well. The king will forgive our sins. But if we rebel, there is a day of reckoning to come.
