Proverbs To Live By (27:17)

As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Most of the proverbs address man from a social point of view. Truly, how we interact with others – friends, family, neighbors, authority figures, people of the world – will in large measure determine our well-being.

Among true friends conversations, shared experiences, disagreements and constructive criticism serve a useful purpose: iron sharpening iron.

There are many disadvantages in reclusiveness, and one of them is a loss of perspective. Viewpoints can become one-sided, extremist. The other side of the story or argument goes unheard, so the hermit comes to think his view is sound. But healthy discussion helps clarify issues, reveal inconsistencies and illuminate our blind spots, thus broadening our wisdom and understanding.

Also, having someone to share our burdens and frustrations, as well as our joys, strengthens our souls and affirms our value. And we have no better friends than those with whom we share spiritual relationship.
