One Sister's View of Aging

Many fear aging and fight tooth and nail to delay or disguise the process.  There’s no telling how much is spent annually on Botox, hair color, wrinkle cream, face lifts and other treatments to stem the unstoppable tide.  Here’s one sister’s take on growing older that I hope others will find inspirational:

“When I look back over 63 years, I see the hand of God in every facet of my life.  One of the beauties of getting older is being able to see how His providence and loving care have shaped my existence in this pilgrimage through earthly life, sometimes through pleasant experiences, sometimes through not so pleasant experiences.  Each of you have been a vital part of the tapestry He has woven for me on the pleasant side of life.  It is very humbling.  I praise His name and am so very thankful to Him.  I am blessed beyond measure.

“As I look in the mirror at gray hair and wrinkles, I am thankful for both!!  They are a reminder to me that this life is temporary and is passing away, yet there is so much more to look forward to that this life cannot offer.  I pray fervently that the Lord will allow me health and years here on earth to see (her husband, jj) through his challenges with Alzheimer’s and to accomplish whatever else I am need for here.  His will be done.”

I have known this treasured sister for 23 years.  In that time she has endured many issues including cancer, a marital crisis, a grandchild with severe autism and caring for both of her elderly parents in her home until they passed away.  Through it all she has not wavered in her duty to God or her hope of heaven.  “We do not lose heart.  Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”
