Jesus' Figures of Speech - 12

A brief overview of some of Jesus’ figurative sayings:

Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before swine.

You are the salt of the earth … the light of the world.

When you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me … for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.

The fact that Jesus used both figures of speech and literal words does not mean He cannot be understood.  We use the same in our everyday communication and we rarely miss the point.  May we all read Scripture for the true meaning.
