More Observations from Tommy Peeler's Blog

1/29/15 – A governor recently spoke publicly about his faith in God and Christ.  He was questioned by a network reporter, “How can you say that when there are so many different faiths among the 320 million people in this country, as well as some who do not believe in God at all?”  Why does speaking positively for God demand 100% agreement, unanimous consent?  That is not applied to other subjects.  When a producer for a TV show promoting same-sex marriage is interviewed, are they ever asked how they make such a show since Christians, Muslims, and orthodox Jews disagree, as well as some who disagree because they do not believe in marriage in any form?

2/3/15 – Psalm 90 deals with the eternity of God and brief life span of man.  In Psalm 90 man’s brief lifespan is tied to his sin (v. 7-11).  Psalm 90:3 says, “You turn men back into dust and say, Return, O children of men.”  In Psalm 103 God’s love is emphasized.  “For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust” (v. 14). Contrast these verses and psalms.  Our “returning to dust” is tied to our sin.  But even though we have created this problem for ourselves, the fact that we are but dust is a reason God has mercy on us.   God has mercy on us even though we fully deserve our judgment.  Such mercy ultimately led God to give His Son on the cross.  Praise God !!!

2/20/15 – What is the impact of our wrong actions, our sins?  A woman told me of how she saved herself for her husband and vowed to be loyal till death.  He vowed the same, but he wasn't.  After she sought to be reconciled and he continued to be with other women, she reluctantly divorced him for his adultery.  She was even more careful about who she married the second time, but the same thing happened again.  Though she did well with containing her emotions and concealing her pain, she asked, "Is every man like that?"  What her husbands did to her affected her attitude to every man she met.  It also had a profound impact on the children in that home. It is hard for us to understand how much damage we may do when we do the wrong thing.

2/27/15 – Ravi Zacharias was speaking at Oxford.  After he spoke, he was told of one young man who had come many miles and deeply desired to meet him.  The young man told him that a few years before he was planning to cut his wrists and take his life.  He felt his life was meaningless.  He did not want to do this in silence and turned on the radio.  As he turned on the radio and went to lie on the bed and take his life the voice on the radio was that of Zacharias.  He was preaching about the fact life had meaning.  The young man listened, got off of his bed, and changed the direction of his life.  Yes, life does have meaning and understanding that can change your life.

11/24/14 – It is rare that a person sees the positive things in an opponent and the shortcomings of a friend.  It is even more rare that a person sees their own failures.  "He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion" (Proverbs 28:13).

10/16/14 – In Joshua's day he fought battles with nations stronger and mightier than Israel.  God told him to "Be strong and courageous" (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9).  Solomon lived in a time of peace (I Kings 5:4; I Chronicles 22:9).  In his work of building the temple he too was told, "Be strong and courageous" (I Chronicles 28:20).  Whatever the task in any age, it takes strength and courage to live for God.

7/21/14 – Crucifixion was an extremely humiliating way to die from both a Roman and Jewish perspective.  Yet a mere 50 days after dying this shameful death Jesus had 3000 followers in Jerusalem, the city where He was crucified.  Soon the number had risen to 5000 men.  Why follow a condemned criminal?  Why follow a crucified man?  There was no reason to … unless, of course, He was raised from the dead, and then there is a great reason to follow Him.
