Person Of The Week: David

In sheer volume of information, we know more about David than any other Old Testament character, including Moses. So special was David that God made a separate covenant with him concerning his kingdom. This promise culminated in Jesus' birth through David’s line of descendants and subsequent heavenly enthronement.

What made David so special? God “gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David ... a man after My own heart, who will do all My will’” (Acts 13:22). David’s life is an example of singular focus on respect for God and His laws. He diligently sought the will of God and conscientiously ruled for the good of His people. David saw himself as a steward of his many blessings.

However, David was not morally perfect. He made several serious errors, including adultery, murder, deceit, transporting the ark illegally and a sinful census. Also, David was a poor father. All of these things had grave consequences for him and Israel. So what made David so different than Saul, his predecessor, who was abandoned by God? The main difference is in how David responded to his sin.

David was not a contented sinner or a committed rebel. David always sorrowed over his sins and returned to God. This is the spirit God still respects today
