Person Of The Week: Moses

How do we summarize a life that played out over so many years of Bible history? Prophet, lawgiver, liberator, mediator, warrior -- Moses wore many hats and wore them well.

Note some things said about Moses: “If there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision, and I speak to him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses. ... I speak with him face to face” (Num. 12:6-8). In spite of this exalted position, “Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth” (Num. 12:3). But perhaps the most significant tribute is this simple acknowledgment: “His is faithful in all My house” (Num. 12:7). There is no higher praise for any of us to hear from God than this.

Moses was a super man, but he was not Superman. He murdered someone; he balked at God’s calling; he was angry enough to sin before the people. But such faults pale in comparison to his unremitting faith in God, his overarching love for God’s people and his perseverance in the task at hand. He influenced many generations of his descendants for good. May we do so by the character of our lives.
