Special Classes For Young People

The Centreville church of Christ hosts two regular classes for young people in the congregation and any visitors who want to join us.

The monthly devotion for teenagers is held the first Sunday evening of each month, and the devotional for young professionals is the second Sunday evening. We encourage you to join the studies whenever you can.

Fall Meeting: Daily Life In Bible Times

The church at Centreville conducted a fall gospel meeting Sept. 16-18 with Ferrell Jenkins of Temple Terrace, Fla.

The theme was "Daily Life in Bible Times." Subjects included examinations of geography, agriculture and custom references found in scripture. Lessons were illustrated with photographs taken by the speaker in the Bible lands and in some of the great museums of the world.

Ferrell Jenkins has been conducting study tours to the Bible lands almost annually since 1967 and has visited most of the area where the events recorded in the Bible took place. His travels have taken him to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Cyprus, as well as other places in Europe and the Orient. Jenkins wrote "Introduction to Christian Evidences," "The Theme of the Bible" and several other works. In 1980 he was a member of the institutional staff of the Lachish (Israel) Archaeological Expedition. He is listed in "Who's Who in Religion" and "Who's Who in Biblical Studies and Archaeology."

Jenkins retired as chairman of Biblical Studies at Florida College in Temple Terrace, Fla., in May 2001. In the past few years he had directed tours of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Greece and Italy, with special emphasis on those areas related to Bible history.

Spring Gospel Meeting

Phillip Mullins, the preacher at the neighboring Dulles church of Christ in Northern Virginia, spoke at the Centreville church of Christ's spring gospel meeting April 29-May 1.

In addition to Phillip's work as a full-time evangelist for almost 25 years, he recently completed several years of teaching in the Tennessee school system. One student said, "He is an amazing teacher! He has changed every life that's walked through his door!"

Phillip spoke in part about spiritual issues and lessons he has learned from his work with young people today.

Active Service At Centreville

As the church at Centreville began another year of service to God, the elders compiled a four-point list of goals for the saints to diligently pursue in 2011. The goals:

Humble-minded — others coming first
Enthusiastic – encouraging, inspiring your families
Glory and honor — respect of the Father and each other
Truthful — convicted, upholding Christ's values

The elders also drafted an overarching theme for the year — Salvation calls for active service — and presented four related passages for the congregation to consider throughout the year:

"Present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." (Rom. 12:1)
"But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called 'today.'" (Heb. 3:13)
"But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves." (James 1:22)
"Wherefore receive one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God." (Rom. 15:7)
